This year, for the first time Tres Hombres shipped two different blends of rum! This edition started its sailing career in the Canaries, where the barrels were traditionally loaded into the cargo hold with ropes and muscle strength.

A little over a week later the ship received the Pan-Pan call from the yacht “Fidel”. After having lost its rudder to the ocean, ship and captain Morits Hermann, a 71-year-old German sailor, had spent two weeks floating the waves. Captain longhair, known previously for his drive to combine emission free shipping with a dedication to other good causes, decided to locate, connect and tow the yacht back to mainland.

So the Tres Hombres crew set about the complicated maneuver of locating the ship in the middle of the ocean, slowing down, positioning both ships as close to each other as possible, finally throwing over a towing line and starting the sail together.

After about a day of optimistic sailing at seven knots with a yacht on a string, the rope had chafed so much it snapped and the yacht was lost to sea once more. Once again the crew set about dousing sails, tacking the boat, locating the yacht and catching it. An intense eight hours later all was once again as it should be, with both ships heading towards the Caribbean at a relaxed pace. The Tres Hombres ended up towing the yacht for over six hundred miles! Arriving finally at the island Santa Lucia.

Moritz and Fidel were set free while Tres Hombres continued to its own destination where the second shipment of rum could be loaded to join the boat during the completion of the annual rum run.

I 2007 faldt tre venner over et vrag af et gammelt tysk fiskeskib, der blev anvendt som en minestryger under Anden Verdenskrig. De ombyggede det gamle træskib til det smukke sejlskib det er i dag. Nu sejler skibet, Tres Hombres på de syv have med last, og vigtigst, uden motor! Under ture på tværs af havene er den langsigtede vision om bæredygtig handel og miljøforbedringer stadig fastholdt.

Det har resulteret i afskibning af forskellige fair trade og økologiske varer, såsom rom, chokolade og kaffe og derved sænket den generelle udledning af kuldioxid for disse produkter. Dette er Fairtransport! I 2010 begyndte de at hjembringe rom, fra den Dominikanske Republik, som de har blended i samarbejde med anerkendte master blendere. En ny rom hvert år i et begrænset antal flasker. 2010 er f.eks næsten ved at være historie.
