Shepherd Neame Craft Beer

In the town of Faversham in Kent, Shepherd Neame has been brewing beer since 1698, making it Britain's oldest brewery still in operation. Beer has been brewed on the site where the brewery stands since medieval times, and the family's roots in the area stretch back just as far. This is British brewing craft that has survived three centuries of wars, changes of monarch and shifting beer fashions.

About Shepherd Neame

Shepherd Neame Specialty Beer comes from Britain's oldest brewery, founded in Faversham, Kent, in 1698. For the newcomer, the range is an accessible entry into classic English beer, from ale to bitter and lager, brewed in traditional British style; for the connoisseur, the history itself is part of the appeal, since the brewery still stands on the same ground and uses water from the same local sources as it did over 300 years ago.

History & Background

The brewery in Faversham can document beer production on the site as far back as 1698, though local history suggests beer had been brewed there since medieval times. The Neame family entered the picture in 1864, when Percy Beale Neame went into partnership with Richard Marsh Shepherd, giving the brewery its current name. Shepherd Neame remains family-owned today, run by the seventh generation of the Neame family, making it one of the rare examples of a British brewery never acquired by a larger group.

Production & Style

The beers are brewed with locally grown hops from Kent, known as one of England's most important hop-growing regions.

Signature Style

Hoppy, Traditional, Balanced
