Fornacina Wine

South of Siena in Tuscany lies the romantic little town of Montalcino, and just outside it sits the small vineyard Fornacina, surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see. Brothers Simone and Mauro Biliorsi have taken over the family farm from their father Ruggero, who began his wine journey with the first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1981. Today, the entire production is organic.

In magnum format, Brunello matures more slowly and harmoniously - a fitting way to experience Fornacina's 2015 vintage if it's meant to be cellared a little longer.

    Expert's Description

Fornacina Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 Magnum is a Red Wine from Italy made from 100% Sangiovese, bottled at 14.5% ABV, in the large 150 cl magnum format.

The wine comes from Cantina Fornacina in Tuscany and carries the prestigious DOCG classification. The larger bottle format gives a more favourable ratio of wine to oxygen in the bottle, which typically results in a slower, more harmonious maturation than in the standard bottle.

About Fornacina

Fornacina is an Italian wine house producing wines from central Italy with a focus on regional grape varieties. For newcomers, it's a fruity, accessible entry into the Brunello style; for connoisseurs, a small, family-run house right in Montalcino, where the entire production is 100% Sangiovese and fully organic-certified.

History & Background

The vineyard is today run by the two brothers Simone and Mauro Biliorsi, who have taken over the family farm from their father Ruggero. Ruggero began his wine journey back in 1981 with the first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino, but in the years leading up to the changeover sold his wine to various large cooperatives in the area. The brothers today produce three different wines - Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello, and the more exclusive Brunello Riserva, made only in truly exceptional vintages - all 100% Sangiovese and organically grown, aged in large casks of Slovenian oak.

Production & Style

The wine is vinified using a mix of traditional and modern methods, aiming to highlight the grape's own character.

Signature Style

Fruity, Mineral, Balanced
The flavour is fruity and balanced, with mineral undertones.
