Autumn light slants through the apple trees of North Jutland, and the scent of ripe Filippa apples mixes with damp earth after rain – the same scent that, as a child, sent you sneaking into the neighbour's garden after the sweetest fruit.
Expert's Description
Nordisk Brænderi Filippa Apple Brandy is a Danish fruit spirit distilled from Filippa apples, bottled at 40%.
Nordisk Brænderi in Fjerritslev, founded in 2009 by Anders Bilgram, gathers the best fruit from North Jutland orchards, ferments it and distils it on home-built copper stills into what the French call eau-de-vie, and what we simply call fruit brandy at home.
Filippa is an old apple variety that has been grown in Denmark for generations, prized for its firm texture and its winey, aromatic flavour – qualities that make it well suited to distillation, since the character survives the whole process.
The result is a clear spirit where both aroma and flavour stay close to the apple itself, with no added sugar or colour.

Did You Know?
In French this style of spirit is called eau-de-vie, meaning water of life, while in Danish it is simply called fruit brandy – but the method is the same: the best fruit is gathered, fermented, distilled and bottled, with no shortcuts taken.
