In Fjerritslev, where the low North Jutland sky meets fields and orchards, pears from the Alexander Lucas trees are distilled into a clear, fragrant spirit that carries the sweetness of autumn straight into the glass.
Expert's Description
Nordisk Brænderi Alexander Lucas Pear Brandy is a Danish fruit spirit distilled from Alexander Lucas pears, bottled at 40%.
Nordisk Brænderi is based in Fjerritslev in North Jutland and was founded in 2009 by Anders Bilgram. The first drops were distilled on home-built copper stills, and Anders's background as a chemist gave a solid foundation for the recipes the distillery has developed since.
The Alexander Lucas pear is known for its juicy, aromatic character, and when the fruit is fermented and distilled in the French eau-de-vie style, much of that fresh pear character carries through into the finished spirit – a craft that demands large quantities of fruit for a comparatively small yield of spirit.
The style echoes classic French Poire brandy, but the fruit itself is thoroughly Danish, grown and distilled within a short distance of the distillery's copper stills.

Did You Know?
Before Nordisk Brænderi became a reality, founder Anders Bilgram set out on a 26,000-kilometre expedition around the Arctic in an open boat. Along the way, locals repeatedly offered him their own home-distilled spirits, and it was there the idea of starting a distillery of his own in North Jutland truly took shape.
