Invergordon Whisky

Invergordon was built in 1959 to create jobs after the Royal Navy left the town's deep-water harbour on the Cromarty Firth. Today the site distils grain whisky amid some of the finest arable land in northeast Scotland, almost invisible to most whisky lovers.

    Investment Potential

Medium. 33 years of maturation is extremely high for a single grain whisky, and with only 276 bottles produced this is a rare chance to taste grain whisky at its most mature.

    Did you know?

Grain whisky is usually matured for a shorter time than malt whisky, because its fuller corn sweetness can be overwhelmed by too much oak — holding its balance for 33 years is unusual.

About Invergordon Whisky

The Invergordon distillery occupies an eighty-acre site on the northern shore of the Cromarty Firth in northeast Scotland, surrounded by some of the country's best arable land and one of Europe's finest deep-water harbours. The site was built in 1959 to create employment after the Royal Navy left the area, and today produces exclusively grain whisky, primarily for use in blends, under the ownership of Whyte & Mackay. Collectors take an interest in the rare single grain releases from independent bottlers, while newcomers rarely encounter Invergordon outside of blended whiskies.

History & Background

The area around Invergordon had for centuries carried the name of Sir William Gordon, an 18th-century laird, and had long served as an important commercial port and naval base thanks to one of Europe's finest deep-water harbours. When the Royal Navy left the site in the late 1950s, the local community was left with an urgent need for new jobs, leading to the decision to build a grain whisky distillery in 1959. The distillery has since changed ownership several times and is today run by Whyte & Mackay under the Loch Lomond Distillery group, continuing to produce grain whisky primarily for use in blends.

History & Background

The distillery was built in 1959 in the port town of Invergordon in response to the rising post-war demand for Scotch whisky. The facility has since become one of Scotland's most productive grain whisky distilleries.

Production & Style

Invergordon primarily produces grain whisky from wheat and maize for use in blends, though occasional single grain releases also reach collectors and enthusiasts.

Signature Style

Light, Clean, Versatile
The flavor offers a light, clean grain character with a gentle sweetness, ideal as a base for blended whisky.
