Vaccari Sambuca

Vaccari has been making sambuca since 1946, a period when Italy was truly reinventing itself after the destruction of war. The recipe has stayed true to the classic, sweet aniseed style ever since, without the shortcuts many newer brands have taken. It's a bottle that still carries the postwar era's optimism.

The man behind the legendary Galliano liqueur also stands behind this soft, clean sambuca - a 1990 tribute to the founder himself.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Vaccari Sambuca is an Italian aniseed liqueur from the house of Vaccari, bottled at 38% ABV.

The Vaccari house dates back to 1868, when Tuscan spirits distiller Arturo Vaccari laid the foundation for the company. Vaccari created the famous liqueur Galliano in 1896, and in 1990 Vaccari Sambuca was launched as a tribute to the founder. The liqueur is distilled with rare Chinese star anise and further flavoured with elderflower and other secret botanicals.

    Smag

The liqueur has a soft, clean aniseed flavour, where the star anise is complemented by a light floral character from the elderflower. The result is a smooth, rounded sambuca with good balance.

About Vaccari

Vaccari Sambuca is a classic Italian sambuca with a full aniseed flavour and a clean, sweet finish. For the newcomer it's an accessible, traditional entry into the sambuca category; for the connoisseur, the charm lies in Vaccari having produced sambuca since postwar Italy, representing one of the more established and historic producers in the category, without having shifted its style significantly along the way.

History & Background

Vaccari began producing sambuca in 1946 in northern Italy, at a time when the country was in the midst of rebuilding after the Second World War. The house held onto the classic distillation method with star anise as the core ingredient, at a point when many other Italian spirits were undergoing major changes. Vaccari is today regarded as one of the older, established names in the sambuca category, known for a consistent style across the decades.

Production & Style

The sambuca is distilled from star anise following a classic family recipe, where the sweetness comes from the anise oil itself rather than added sugar alone.

Did You Know?

The Vaccari family is best known outside Italy for its balsamic vinegar, which makes the sambuca a slightly overlooked side product from a house that is first and foremost a master of slow, patient processing.
