About Antica Sambuca

Antica Sambuca is produced by Antiche Distillerie Riunite in the valley between the Dolomites and Venice. The liqueur is a sweet, natural Italian anise spirit, distilled from star anise and 17 other herbs and spices - traditionally enjoyed as a digestif after a meal, often served "con la mosca" with three coffee beans in the glass as a symbol of health, happiness and prosperity.

History & Background

The story begins in 1868, when the Rossi D'Asiago distillery was founded and quickly made a name for itself with innovative products, winning awards including the Gran Medaglia D'Oro and the Grand Prix in Paris in 1904. More than a century later, distiller Francesco Dal Toso acquired the brand and its production legacy, refounding the company as Antiche Distillerie Riunite. In 2001, the recipe was modernised and Antica Sambuca Classic was relaunched on the market.

Production & Style

The liqueur is made by distilling an infusion of star anise and 17 other herbs and spices. Beyond the classic, the range extends into several fruit and flavour variants, including liquorice, raspberry, banana, apple, cherry and coffee.
