Metaxa Brandy

In 1888, Spyros Metaxa created a spirit that refuses to be categorised. Neither quite brandy, nor quite wine, Metaxa is Greece's own answer to what a national spirit can be.

About Metaxa Brandy

Metaxa is a Greek spirit created by Spyros Metaxa in 1888, a unique blend of aged brandy, wine distillates and Muscat wine spiced with Mediterranean herbs. For newcomers it's an accessible, sweet digestif that differs from classic Cognac or brandy; for connoisseurs it's interesting that Metaxa technically can't be called either brandy or wine, but forms its own category, a unique Greek spirit that has existed largely unchanged for over a hundred years.

History & Background

Spyros Metaxa developed his recipe in 1888, wanting to create a spirit that could carry the Greek temperament and Greek ingredients forward in an entirely own category. By combining aged wine distillate with sweet Muscat wine and a secret blend of Mediterranean herbs and roses, he created something that could be called neither pure brandy nor pure wine. The recipe has remained largely unchanged through generations since, making Metaxa Greece's most exported spirits brand.

Production & Style

Metaxa is made from a blend of aged wine brandy and sweet wine from Muscat grapes, flavored with a secret blend of herbs and rose essence.

Signature Style

Sweet, Aromatic, Full-Bodied
The flavor offers a sweet, full-bodied character with an aromatic touch of Muscat grapes and roses.
