Dead Man's Fingers Rum

Dead Man's Fingers takes its name from a warning sailors once used for dangerous, jagged rocks along the Cornish coast. The rum carries the same dark, adventurous mood, spiced and full-bodied, as if distilled for a pirate's final voyage. It's rum that isn't afraid to flirt with the eerie.

Hemp in a rum sounds like a novelty, but the result is actually more herbal and refreshing than most would expect.

    Expert description

Dead Man's Fingers Hemp is a Rum from England, infused with hemp leaves and bottled at 40%.

Dead Man's Fingers is known for its unconventional approach to flavoured rum, and the Hemp edition is no exception. The Caribbean base rum is infused with hemp leaves, giving the bottle a green, herbal character that stands apart from the house's other spiced and fruity editions.

  • Dead Man's Fingers Spiced Rum bottle with skeleton hand label
    Item no.: 22227865423147389-20102

It all started in a crab and seafood restaurant in the small coastal town of St Ives, Cornwall. Dead Man's Fingers has nothing to do with old rum tradition, and that's exactly the point: a spiced rum built on curiosity rather than rules.

    Expert Description

Dead Man's Fingers Spiced Rum is a Spiced Rum from the Caribbean and England, bottled at 37.5%.

Behind the rum stands the Rum and Crab Shack, a restaurant in St Ives, where the founders began experimenting with rum as a side project in 2015. The base is a blend of rums from Trinidad and Barbados, aged for up to three years before being blended with spices and brought to the Bristol and Bath Rum Distillery in England, where it's finished and bottled.

The spicing is applied with a firm hand: orange, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla give a sweet, lightly festive character, while a hint of saffron and black pepper keep the rum from becoming too perfumed.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Orange peel and caramel meet cinnamon and nutmeg, with a sweet hint of saffron cake.

    Palate

Full and spiced with brown sugar, vanilla and dried fruit, carried by a warm cinnamon note.

    Finish

Medium length with a final touch of black pepper and a hint of orange fading gently out.

About Dead Man's Fingers

Dead Man's Fingers Rum is an English rum series from Cornwall, known for its atmospheric name and its spiced, full-bodied flavour profile. For the newcomer it's an accessible, easy-to-understand entry into spiced rum; for the connoisseur, the charm lies in the maritime, slightly macabre universe surrounding the brand, playing on Cornwall's long history of smuggling, shipwrecks and pirate lore along its rugged southwestern coast.

History & Background

Dead Man's Fingers was launched by the Half Hitch Group in Cornwall as part of a new wave of British spirits brands that deliberately build their identity around maritime myth and local folklore. The name refers to an old seafaring term for dangerous, jagged reefs that have sent countless ships to the bottom along the Cornish coast over the centuries. The rum is spiced and blended using modern methods, but its packaging and story deliberately draw on the region's long history of smuggling and maritime danger.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled and blended with various natural flavourings, including spices and fruit, depending on the expression.
