Hatozaki Whisky

Hatozaki takes its name from an old lighthouse on the Akashi Strait that has guided fishermen and merchant ships safely home for generations. The whisky comes from one of Japan's older distilleries, founded as a sake brewery long before whisky was ever part of the plan. The bottle carries the same quiet precision as the liquid inside: elegant, understated, unmistakably Japanese.

About Hatozaki Whisky

Hatozaki is a Japanese whisky from the Kaikyo Distillery in Akashi, named after a historic lighthouse in the region. For the curious newcomer it's an accessible, gentle first step into Japanese whisky, wrapped in elegant packaging that signals craftsmanship without an intimidating price tag. For the more seasoned collector, Hatozaki represents the wave of smaller Japanese distilleries that have won international recognition in recent years, as the big established names like Yamazaki and Hibiki have become ever harder to find.

History & background

Hatozaki is named after an old lighthouse in Kobe Bay and is released by Kaikyo Distillery (formerly Akashi), one of Japan's older distilleries, founded in 1888 as a sake brewery before gaining a whisky licence in 1919. The range is typically blended from malt and grain whisky sourced from several Japanese producers, supplemented in some expressions with imported Scotch, a practice common among Japan's lesser-known whisky houses. Hatozaki is aimed especially at newer whisky drinkers with its accessible, balanced style and elegant packaging inspired by Japanese craft traditions.

Production & style

The whisky is composed of malt and grain whisky following Japanese tradition, drawing inspiration from both Scottish and Japanese methods.

Signature style

Smooth, Fruity, Floral
The flavor offers a smooth, fruity character with a floral, Japanese expression.
