On the edge of Guadalajara, where blue agave grows in reddish, mineral-rich soil 1,600 metres above sea level, the family behind Destilerías Sierra Unidas has been distilling tequila for four generations. The bottle with the iconic sombrero cap has been travelling the world since 1981 and is today one of Europe's best-selling tequilas.
Expert Description
Sierra Reposado Mexican Tequila is a Reposado, rested in American bourbon oak barrels and bottled at 38%.
Sierra Tequila is produced at Destilerías Sierra Unidas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where master distiller Rodolfo González González carries on a family tradition spanning several generations. The tequila is double distilled in traditional pot stills and has an agave content of around 85%, well above the legal minimum of 51%. After distillation, the tequila rests for up to six months in American bourbon oak barrels, which give it its golden colour and a softer, sweeter character, with no added sugar or colouring.
