Knob Creek Whiskey

Knob Creek is named after the small stream near Abraham Lincoln's childhood home, in a landscape where whiskey and American history run together. It's aged a full nine years, twice as long as many competitors dare wait, to get the heavy, unadulterated character the brand is known for.

    Expert description

Knob Creek 9 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's core expression, aged 9 years, bottled at 50%. Knob Creek was created in 1992 by Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, as part of the Jim Beam Small Batch Bourbon Collection. Noe drew inspiration from the Bottled-in-Bond Act to create a whiskey representing the full flavour and quality of the pre-Prohibition era. The brand name was actually used as early as 1898, but was revived by the Beam family after acquiring National Distillers in 1987. Knob Creek helped revive interest in full-proof bourbon at a time when many other brands were lowering their alcohol content.

About Knob Creek

Knob Creek is a Jim Beam brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye Whiskey, introduced in 1992 as part of Booker Noe's "Small Batch Bourbon Collection", a range created to bring back the heavy, powerful pre-Prohibition bourbon style. The original bourbon is aged nine years, notably longer than most competitors, while the rye edition, launched in 2012, won "Best New Whiskey" immediately after its debut. Collectors take an interest in the annual Single Barrel and Limited Edition releases, while newcomers meet a full-bodied, robust bourbon with more punch than many other Beam brands.

History & Background

The name comes from Knob Creek, a small stream in Kentucky near where Abraham Lincoln lived as a child, and where his father is said locally to have worked in distilling. The brand was developed by Booker Noe, sixth-generation master distiller at Jim Beam and grandson of Jim Beam himself, who wanted to recreate the heavier bourbon style common before Prohibition changed the industry forever. Since its 1992 launch, Knob Creek has become one of Jim Beam's most respected names and has cemented Booker Noe's legacy as one of the bourbon industry's most influential figures.

History & Background

Master distiller Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam himself, developed Knob Creek as a deliberate counterweight to the light, mild whiskeys of the time, choosing to age it longer and bottle it at higher strength than usual. The brand became one of the driving forces behind the bourbon renaissance that truly took off in the US in the 1990s and 2000s.

Production & Style

The bourbon is aged for nine years, longer than most competitors at the time, and bottled at a high strength that emphasises the bourbon's full, powerful character.

Signature Style

Powerful, Cask-Driven, Spiced
Caramel, toasted oak and a strong spice profile give a robust bourbon still regarded as one of the category's most important revivers.
