Maxime Trijol Cognac

Maxime Trijol is the family house from 1930 that insists good cognac doesn't need to cost a fortune. In the heart of the Cognac region, four generations have stuck to the craft while other houses have been bought up by international conglomerates. The result is a cognac that still tastes of family ownership rather than shareholder demands.

    Item no.: 22227865491-2500

In Saint-Martial-sur-Né, at the heart of Grande Champagne's chalky soil, the Trijol family has been distilling since 1859. Dry Collection Batch 01 is the house's take on a dry, uncompromising Cognac style, bottled in a run so limited that every bottle feels like a small piece of this family history.

    Expert's Description

Maxime Trijol Dry Collection Batch 01 Very Old is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, classified Very Old and bottled at 43%.

The house of Maxime Trijol was founded in 1859, when the Trijol family settled in Saint-Martial-sur-Né at the heart of Grande Champagne, the cru regarded as Cognac's finest. The family were originally winegrowers, but over time expanded into independent distillation, and the house is run today by the sixth generation. For production, Maxime Trijol relies on 22 copper stills of 2,500 litres each.

The chalky soil of Grande Champagne gives eaux-de-vie exceptional finesse and an unusually strong ageing potential, exactly the qualities the Dry Collection range is built to highlight. Batch 01 is the first release in the series and comes in a limited run of only 770 bottles.

The Very Old classification sits at the mature end of Cognac's age scale, and the name Dry Collection reflects the house's ambition for a dry, less sweet style, where the oak's spice and the fruit's concentration stand out more clearly.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dry and elegant, with dried apricot, a hint of tobacco leaf and a lightly spiced undertone from the oak.

    Palate

Taut and finely woven, with nuts, a touch of toasted wood and a concentrated fruitiness that never turns cloyingly sweet.

    Finish

Long, dry and spiced, with a lingering mineral finish that reflects Grande Champagne's chalky soil.

About Maxime Trijol

Maxime Trijol is the cognac house that made it its mission to keep both quality and price down to earth. The family has run the business since 1930 without compromising on craft. For newcomers, it's an accessible entry into cognac without the usual price barrier; for connoisseurs, one of the region's few independent, family-run houses still distilling on its own Charente stills.

History & Background

The house was founded in 1930 by Maxime Trijol in the town of Cognac and has since been run by the same family across several generations. From the start, the ambition was to make a high-quality cognac that ordinary households could still afford, not only the wealthy. That philosophy still shapes the range today.

Production & Style

The cognac is distilled from grapes grown across several of the region's crus and matured on French oak casks in the house's own cellars in the town of Cognac. Blends are put together with a focus on balance rather than age for its own sake.

Signature Style

Full-Bodied, Fruity, Straightforward
Expect a full-bodied profile of ripe stone fruit, a touch of caramel, and a warm, straightforward finish.
