Torbreck Vintners is an Australian wine house from the Barossa Valley, known for using some of the world's oldest Shiraz vines. For the collector, the house's minimalist physical setup - a sheep shed, two cement tanks and a primitive pump - is a reminder that it's what's in the bottle, not the facilities, that earned founder David Powell the title Winemaker of the Year.

History & Background

The winery was founded in 1994 by David Powell and quickly earned international recognition for its powerful, quintessentially Barossa Shiraz wines. The name Torbreck, like many of the house's wine names, is of Scottish origin - a tribute to the country where Powell once worked, before returning home to found the winery.

Production & Style

The wines are made primarily from Shiraz grapes from old vines, some over a hundred years old, grown in the Barossa Valley's warm climate.
