Filliers 28 Gin

At Belgium's Filliers Distillery, the craft of jenever has been refined across generations of the same family. Filliers 28 is the distillery's modern answer to gin, named after the 28 botanicals that give the bottle its iconic, spicy character.

In 1928, Firmin Filliers, the third generation of the distilling family, created a recipe still used unchanged today, and the name "28" honours both the year and the number of botanicals.

    Expert's description

Filliers 28 Dry Gin is a Belgian Small Batch Potstill Gin distilled at Filliers Distillery and bottled at 46%.

The distillery was founded in 1880 and has a long tradition of producing high-quality spirits in the East Flanders countryside.

The recipe is built on 28 botanicals besides juniper, including Belgian hops, angelica root, allspice, fresh oranges from Spain and lavender, which are distilled separately in traditional copper stills.

The gin has only really found its way onto the international market since 2012, though it is built on a recipe unchanged since 1928.

About Filliers 28

Filliers 28 is a Belgian gin brand from Filliers Distillery, crafting an iconic dry gin with a spicy, complex profile. For newcomers it's an accessible introduction to Belgian gin with a distinct identity; for collectors it's notable that the distillery behind it has roots stretching back to the late 1800s in jenever production, giving Filliers 28 an authenticity and craft depth rarely found among newer gin brands.

History & Background

Filliers Distillery was founded in 1880 by Firmin Filliers in the East Flanders village of Bachte-Maria-Leerne, where the family already had experience distilling grain spirits. Across five generations, the Filliers family has grown the distillery from a local jenever house into one of Belgium's most respected spirits producers. Filliers 28 Dry Gin was launched as the family's modern take on the gin category, channelling their long experience with grain distillation and jenever botanicals into a new kind of gin. The name '28' refers to the 28 botanicals in the recipe, a nod to the house's ambition for complexity over simplicity.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and 28 botanicals in a classic pot still, rooted in the house's jenever tradition.

Signature Style
