  • Small square liqueur bottle with clear liquid and black-and-white label from Pierre Ferrand
    Item no.: 22227865378-8043

The name curaçao traces back to the Caribbean island where bitter laraha oranges once grew wild and became a trading commodity for sailors and distillers. France embraced the style and made it its own, and in this small 35 cl bottle that whole history is gathered into a format easy to take home and experiment with.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Triple Sec is a French Liqueur on a cognac base, bottled at 40% in a 35 cl bottle.

The liqueur follows the same recipe as the house's 70 cl bottling, where bitter and sweet orange peel is distilled together with cognac and a neutral spirit in three passes, a technique that gives the name triple sec and ensures a dry, clean citrus character rather than overwhelming sweetness.

The smaller format makes the bottle well suited to trying the style out without committing to a full bottle, and suits a home bar just getting started as well as an experienced enthusiast who wants an extra bottle for travel.

The Pierre Ferrand cognac base gives the liqueur a warmth and depth that sets it apart from liqueurs built on neutral spirit alone.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma offers orange blossom and candied orange peel, with an underlying wood note reminiscent of classic cognac.

    Palate

The palate shifts from candied orange up front to hazelnut and bitter almonds, with a light marzipan-like sweetness in the middle.

    Finish

The finish is dry and nutty, where bitter almonds and a last trace of orange peel remain longest.

The name curaçao traces back to the Caribbean island of the same name, where bitter laraha oranges, a degenerated variety of the sweet orange, were dried and used to flavour liqueur as early as the 1600s, long before the style became a fixture of the French spirits repertoire.

  • Square liqueur bottle with clear liquid and black-and-white label from Pierre Ferrand
    Item no.: 22227865378-8042

Cocktail historian David Wondrich has spent a large part of his life tracing how drinks tasted before modern liqueurs made everything sweeter and more uniform. When he turned his attention to curaçao liqueur, he found his way to an 1800s recipe, which Pierre Ferrand has since carried through to the bottle.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Triple Sec is a French Liqueur on a cognac base, bottled at 40%.

The liqueur was created together with Wondrich and is based on a historical recipe in which bitter and sweet orange peel is distilled together with cognac and a neutral spirit, three times over, hence the name triple sec. The result is drier and more elegant than many modern orange liqueurs, which often lean toward pure sweetness.

The cognac base from Pierre Ferrand gives the liqueur warmth and depth that sets it apart from liqueurs built on neutral spirit alone, underlining the house's roots in Grande Champagne.

This style of curaçao liqueur was a fixture in cocktail books from the 1800s and today appears in classics such as Margarita, Cosmopolitan, Sidecar, White Lady and Mai Tai.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma offers orange peel and lemon blossom, with a hint of vanilla and light spice from the cognac base.

    Palate

The palate is dry and clear, with orange and citrus oil leading, carried by a mild warmth and a touch of spice from the cognac.

    Finish

The finish is long, dry and elegantly bitter, where the orange peel lingers longest on the palate.

  • Bottle of Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical liqueur with orange label
    Item no.: 0596-025533

The sun beats down on Barbados, and the air carries the scent of toasted orange peel and warm molasses. At Stade's old rum distillery, Maison Ferrand went looking for inspiration in 19th-century Caribbean kitchens and came back with a liqueur rooted in the nearly forgotten tradition of shrubb.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical is a French Liqueur brewed from Barbados rum and bottled at 40%.

The bottle is the newest addition to Maison Ferrand's Dry Curaçao range, alongside the classic Original and the more exotic Yuzu Late Harvest. While those two build on a cognac base, Tropical takes a different route: master blender Alexandre Gabriel worked with spirits historian David Wondrich to dig up the almost-forgotten Caribbean shrubb tradition — a drink made from rum, citrus peels, sugar and local spices such as cinnamon and clove.

Production takes place at Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery, a distillery with around 130 years of history on Barbados. Laraha orange peels are infused and slowly distilled, while a separate botanical infusion of vanilla, spices and orange is prepared on a rum base. Everything is then blended with both pot still and column still rums, aged between two and five years, before the liqueur is bottled at 40%.

Tropical launched in January 2026 and has so far only reached the European market.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe pineapple meets toasted orange peel, a hint of vanilla and a light floral note that signals the tropical direction the liqueur takes.

    Palate

Soft and full-bodied, with layers of pineapple, mango and passion fruit woven together with bitter orange and fresh citrus. The sweetness is clear but never heavy.

    Finish

Long and warm, with a citrus-fresh close and an elegant bitter bite from the orange peel that keeps the liqueur from turning cloying.

The yuzu is picked late in the season, when the peel is thickest and most fragrant, and sent from the French citrus specialist L'Agrumist to Pierre Ferrand's workshop. There it meets a base of the house's own cognac and becomes something that is neither pure citrus nor pure spirit, but somewhere in between.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Yuzu Late Harvest is a French Liqueur on a cognac base, bottled at 40%.

Yuzu is a citrus fruit grown mainly in Japan, a cross between mandarin and a wild citrus variety, valued for its intensely fragrant peel rather than its juice. At L'Agrumist the fruit is hand-picked late in the season, a technique that concentrates the peel and gives it a character closer to pastry than fresh citrus.

The base is Pierre Ferrand's own cognac, which lends the liqueur depth and a gentle warmth beneath the citrus notes. The combination of late harvest and cognac base makes this Limited Edition bottling a different take on the house's classic Dry Curaçao style.

The liqueur is intended as a cocktail ingredient that can bring freshness and complexity to drinks that would otherwise lack a clear citrus edge.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma is intense and floral, with yuzu's distinctive peel and a hint of honey and pastry.

    Palate

The palate is sweet and citrus-driven, where yuzu's sharp peel meets a soft, cake-like sweetness from the late-harvest technique.

    Finish

The finish is fresh and lightly bitter, where the cognac base gives a warm close beneath the citrus sweetness.

About Curacao

Curaçao is a category of orange-based liqueurs, originally named after the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea, where the bitter laraha orange, a relative of the Seville orange, is grown.

History & Background

When Spanish settlers brought orange trees to Curaçao, the fruit adapted to the dry climate and developed a bitter, aromatic peel that proved ideal for liqueur production. The peel from the laraha fruit is still used today to give curaçao liqueur its characteristic aroma.

Production & Style

The liqueur is made by macerating the dried orange peels in alcohol, after which the flavor is distilled out and blended with sugar to create the sweet, aromatic profile.

Signature Style

Citrus-Forward, Sweet, Aromatic
The flavor offers a distinct, bittersweet orange character, ideal in cocktails like Blue Lagoon or Long Island Iced Tea.
