Royal Brackla Whisky

Royal Brackla was founded in 1812 near Nairn and made history in 1835, when King William IV granted the distillery the right to call itself 'Royal' - the first whisky in the world to receive that honour. The title was later reconfirmed by several subsequent monarchs. Now owned by Bacardi via John Dewar & Sons, Royal Brackla still carries that royal legacy, even though it remains one of the Highlands' lesser-known names.

About Royal Brackla Whisky

Royal Brackla is a Highland distillery near Nairn, historically the first to receive royal recognition in 1835. For a newcomer, it's a light, fruity, approachable style; for the connoisseur, Royal Brackla's status as the 'original' royal whisky - an honour several other distilleries later imitated - is part of what makes the name interesting, even though today it paradoxically remains one of Scotland's least-known royal brands.

History & Background

The distillery was founded in 1812 and received royal warrant from William IV in 1835, an honour later also given to whisky brands like Royal Lochnagar.

Production & Style

Royal Brackla distils using classic Highland methods and has historically been known as "The King's Own Whisky" due to its royal connection.

Signature Style

Fruity, Spicy, Elegant
The taste offers a fruity, spiced character with an elegant, rounded finish.
