Havana Club Rum

Havana Club was born in 1934, the same year the world was still climbing out of a global depression, but on Cuba the mood was entirely different. The rum grew to become a symbol of Cuban identity itself, deeply tied to the island's culture and self-image. Today the brand is jointly owned by the Cuban state and French spirits house Pernod Ricard, an alliance that has made Havana Club a global name, with one notable exception: the American market, where the trade embargo against Cuba still sets the limits.

About Havana Club Rum

Havana Club is the best-known Cuban rum internationally, with roots dating back to Havana in 1934.

History & Background

Havana Club was founded in 1934 in Havana and quickly grew into a symbol of Cuban rum identity, closely tied to the island's culture and history. After the Cuban revolution, the brand remained in Cuban hands until French spirits giant Pernod Ricard entered a joint venture with the Cuban state in 1993 to develop and export the rum globally. The alliance made Havana Club one of the world's best-known rum brands outside Cuba, but also sparked a long-running trademark dispute with Bacardi over rights to the name in the American market. As a result of the US trade embargo against Cuba, Havana Club in its Cuban form remains unavailable in the United States, making the brand one of the clearest examples of how geopolitics can shape the fate of a spirits bottle.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled from molasses and aged in oak casks using classic Cuban tradition for light, dry rum.

Signature Style

Light, Dry, Caramel
The flavor offers a light, dry character with a classic touch of caramel and vanilla.
