Smooth Ambler takes its Greenbrier Gin and splits it in two: half rests in virgin oak barrels, the other half in used Old Scout Bourbon barrels, before the two are reunited into this rich, cask-aged gin.
Expert's description
Smooth Ambler Double-barrel American Gin is an American cask-aged gin from Smooth Ambler Spirits in West Virginia, bottled at 49.5%.
The base is Greenbrier Gin, distilled from a bourbon mash of corn, wheat and barley, infused with botanicals such as juniper, cardamom, orange and lemon peel.
Half of the gin ages in new, virgin oak barrels while the other half matures in used Old Scout Bourbon barrels for three months, after which the two halves are blended.
The barrel ageing adds caramel and vanilla notes plus a light sweetness reminiscent of bourbon, without losing the gin's classic juniper spice.
