Silvio Carta Vermouth

Sardinia is known for its rugged, untamed nature - and for a vermouth that tastes just as wild. Silvio Carta blends local Sardinian herbs with white wine into a vermouth far more spiced and rugged than its mainland Italian cousins. This is the island's landscape, poured into a glass.

  • Light Italian aperitivo with Sardinian citrus for spritz
    Item no.: 22278654231473-9000

Just six kilometres from the sea, mandarins and lemons grow thick around Silvio Carta's distillery. In summer, the scent of ripe citrus fills the whole valley, and it is exactly that scent the Carta family has captured in Aspide Spritz.

    Expert's Description

Aspide Spritz Silvio Carta is an Italian Aperitivo from Sardinia, bottled at 11% alcohol.

  • Italian coffee amaro with roasted beans and Sardinian honey
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0366

In a small distillery in Baratili San Pietro, coffee beans from four continents are roasted until they take on the colour of a monk's habit. The aroma mingles with the sweet, earthy scent of Sardinian strawberry-tree honey. That is how Silvio Carta's coffee amaro is born.

    Expert's Description

Silvio Carta Amaro Bomba Carta Caffè is an Italian Amaro from Sardinia, infused with roasted coffee and bottled at 26% alcohol.

The amaro builds on the classic Bomba Carta and is infused with roasted Arabica coffee beans from El Salvador, Brazil, Colombia and Honduras, together with rare Sardinian corbezzolo honey from the strawberry tree. Each coffee is roasted in Sardinia according to Italian tradition for around 20 minutes, until the beans reach a deep, dark "monk's habit" colour. The amaro is produced by the Carta family in Baratili San Pietro, where the company has experimented with the island's raw materials since the early 1950s.

  • Sardinian vermouth infused with Mediterranean coastal herbs
    Item no.: 222278654231473-9003

Where Sardinia's western coastline meets the salt wind, rosemary and laurel grow wild between the rocks. Just a few kilometres from the sea, the Carta family has for generations hand-picked the island's wild herbs and steeped them into wine that becomes vermouth. Silvio Carta's Vermouth Rosso carries that coastline with it in every glass.

    Expert's Description

Silvio Carta Vermouth Rosso is an Italian Vermouth from Sardinia, based on Vernaccia di Oristano DOC Riserva and bottled at 18% alcohol.

The wine behind the vermouth rests for 12 years in small Sardinian chestnut barrels before being infused for two to three months with hand-picked botanicals such as helichrysum, myrtle leaves, thyme and artemisia. All the herbs are harvested in the Carta family's own gardens in Baratili San Pietro, where the company was founded in the early 1950s.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense scents of Mediterranean scrubland - rosemary, laurel and pine needles - meet resin and pine nuts over a base of faint, salty marine notes.

    Palate

The palate is intense, soft and round, well balanced with the alcohol, with recurring waves of herbs and ripe fruit.

    Finish

The finish is decisive and clean, with a long mineral trail reminiscent of sea air over Sardinian rocks.

    Item no.: 059763-615-177

On Sardinia's west coast, where Mediterranean scrubland and salt air meet century-old vineyards, the Carta family has been making vermouth since the 1950s. The Vernaccia grape provides the base, and the island's wild herbs do the rest.

    Expert's Description

Silvio Carta Vermouth Servito is an Italian Vermouth made from Vernaccia di Oristano wine and bottled at 16%. The family-run Silvio Carta was founded in Baratili San Pietro on Sardinia and has spent three generations specialising in the island's traditional Vernaccia wine, which also forms the backbone of the house vermouth.

The wine is infused with a selection of Sardinian herbs and Mediterranean scrub botanicals, giving the vermouth its distinctive, slightly saline, herb-driven profile. The style is bianco — pale straw in the glass — setting it apart from the heavier, darker vermouth styles of mainland Italy through its freshness and salt-tinged finish.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Citrus peel, wildflowers and Mediterranean herbs, with a touch of ripe quince.

    Palate

Soft and elegant with sweet orange, vanilla and a gentle bitterness that keeps it balanced.

About Silvio Carta Vermouth

Silvio Carta Vermouth comes from Sardinia and stands apart from mainland Italy's more familiar vermouth styles through its use of local Sardinian herbs and plants. For the newcomer it's an exclusive, spiced experience, lovely in cocktails or simply over ice with soda water; for the curious, the Sardinian connection is fascinating because the island's isolated plant life gives the vermouth a botanical fingerprint hard to find anywhere else in Italy.

History & Background

The Silvio Carta house has roots in Sardinia's local wine and herb tradition, where the island's distinctive flora - shaped by dry summers and a harsh, salty climate - has given rise to a vermouth style quite different from Turin vermouth's sweeter, more floral profile. The tradition of aromatising wine with local herbs and bark runs deep on the island, where homemade bitters and aperitif recipes have historically been part of household life. Silvio Carta has carried this heritage forward commercially, making the Sardinian vermouth style accessible to an international audience.

Production & Style

The vermouth is made with a Sardinian wine base, infused with a unique blend of local mountain and coastal herbs, giving it a distinct, island-driven character.

Signature Style

Herbal, Bitter, Complex
The flavor offers a complex, herbal character with a pleasant bitterness shaped by the Sardinian plants.
