    Expert's Description

Albert Ponnelle Signature Rouge is a Red Wine from France with an alcohol content of 12.5%. The house was founded by Pierre-Lazare Ponnelle and is today run by the fifth generation, Pierre Ponnelle. The founder was known for his research into vinification processes, particularly the chemistry of fermentation, and collaborated in this respect with Louis Pasteur, who at the time lived in nearby Dôle. The Signature range is the house's accessible entry level, created to represent classic Burgundy style without the high price tag.

About Albert Ponnelle

Albert Ponnelle is a champagne house with roots in the classic winegrowing tradition of the Champagne region, characterized by a discreet, artisanal approach rather than grand commercial gestures. The champagnes are made using the traditional method, with a focus on finesse and balance between the region's classic grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. For newcomers, Albert Ponnelle is an authentic, lesser-known entry into the champagne category, while connoisseurs will appreciate the house's understated, quality-focused profile.

History & Background

Albert Ponnelle has roots in the Champagne region's long winegrowing tradition, where families have cultivated the classic grape varieties on the region's chalky soils for generations. The house has historically maintained a relatively low profile compared to the large, world-famous champagne houses, instead building its reputation through consistent quality and a faithful approach to the traditional champagne method. Today Albert Ponnelle represents part of Champagne's more authentic, less commercialized side.

Production & Style

The Champagne is made following the classic méthode champenoise with aging on lees, giving it a fine, mature character.
