Do not call it rum in Austria. Call it Inländer Rum, an explosive local specialty that has been filling cake batter and mulled wine since Franz Josef sat on the throne.
Expert description
Stroh Original is a Rum from Austria, powerfully bottled at 80%.
The rum comes from the Austrian distillery Stroh, founded by Sebastian Stroh in 1832 in Klagenfurt. Because Stroh is not distilled from sugarcane molasses in the traditional Caribbean manner, it cannot legally be called rum in every market, which is why in Austria it carries the historic designation "Inländer Rum." At 80%, it is primarily intended for the kitchen, in baking, mulled wine and hot toddies, rather than as a dram consumed neat. This bottle is a 20cl size.

Did you know?
Stroh 80 is so widespread in Austria that it is often simply called "Rum" in everyday speech, even though its legal name is Inländer Rum, a designation the country was allowed to keep as a historic exception within EU spirits regulations.
