About Kalevala

Kalevala is a Finnish gin named after the Finnish national epic of the same name. For newcomers it's a fresh, berry-driven gin with clear Nordic notes; for collectors it's notable that the brand deliberately ties its identity to the Kalevala epic, one of the most central works in Finnish cultural heritage, making every bottle as much a story about national identity as about flavour.

History & Background

The Kalevala epic, compiled and published by Elias Lönnrot in 1835 from oral Finnish and Karelian folk poetry, is regarded as a cornerstone of Finnish national identity and played a central role in the country's path to independence. When the distillers behind Kalevala Gin came to name their creation, they deliberately chose this name to connect the gin to the country's deepest cultural heritage rather than just another geographic or botanical name. The gin's botanicals, including forest berries and Nordic herbs, were chosen to reflect the forests and nature in which the epic's stories unfold. The result is a distillery attempting to distil not just flavour, but national history.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and Finnish botanicals, often including forest berries and Nordic herbs.

Signature Style
