Teachers Whisky

A blended Scotch with a smoky Highland malt as its fixed heart, built to be drunk every day without compromising on character. Teacher's was the whisky the Scots poured for themselves long before it became an export product, and its smoky Ardmore malt core still makes it hard to mistake for other blends.

  • Teacher's Highland Cream Blended Scotch Whisky in a large bottle
    Item no.: 555555555-666358

Apples, pears and a whisper of honey in a whisky that has followed Glasgow drams since the 1800s.

    Expert description

Teacher's Highland Cream is a Blended Scotch Whisky from William Teacher & Sons, bottled at 40% ABV in a generous 100 cl bottle.

The blend was registered as a trademark in 1884 and built its reputation as a robust, malt-heavy blend, with the Ardmore distillery in Aberdeenshire, founded by the Teacher family in 1898, forming the backbone of the whisky ever since. The brand is now owned by Beam Suntory, yet the recipe still follows the tradition of a full-bodied, malt-forward blend.

The character is defined by a deep maltiness up front, which softens into a sweeter profile of fruit and honey, helping make Teacher's one of the best-selling blends in the UK for decades.

About Teacher's

Teacher's was among the first blends to use a tamper-proof screw cap, earning it the nickname "the whisky the Scots drink" at home. For beginners, it's an easy way into smoky blended whisky without the steep price or complexity single malts often demand, while connoisseurs appreciate how consistently the Ardmore malt character has been kept over the decades.

History & Background

The Teacher's name comes from William Teacher, who opened a wine shop in Glasgow in the 1830s and went on to build a chain of bars across the city, selling his own blend. The Highland Cream blend launched in 1884 and quickly became one of Scotland's best-selling whiskies. To secure a steady supply of the smoky Highland malt at the blend's core, the family built its own distillery, Ardmore, in Aberdeenshire in 1898. The brand has since changed hands several times, from Allied Domecq to its current owner, Beam Suntory, but the basic recipe has remained largely unchanged.

Production & Style

The blend is built around the smoky Highland malt Ardmore as its fixed backbone, combined with selected grain whiskies.
