Beinn an Tuirc means 'the hill of the wild boar' in Gaelic and is the highest point on the Kintyre peninsula. Just below the hill, in a converted piggery on Torrisdale Estate, this gin is distilled with the whole estate as its larder.
Expert's description
Kintyre Botanical Gin is a Scottish London Dry Gin distilled by Beinn an Tuirc Distillers on Torrisdale Estate and bottled at 43%.
The distillery began production in June 2017 on Torrisdale Estate, owned by the Macalister Hall family since 1872. The building and still are powered directly by the estate's own hydro-electric scheme, making it one of Scotland's first distilleries of its kind.
The gin is distilled from 12 botanicals, including juniper, cassia, coriander, lemon, orange, liquorice, almond, angelica root, orris root and cubeb berry, joined by sheep sorrel and Icelandic moss foraged directly on the estate to keep food miles down.
Using locally foraged Icelandic moss and sheep sorrel is a deliberate choice that ties the gin more closely to the Kintyre landscape than most other Scottish gins.
