Elephant Gin

A journey through the African landscape, a sunset and a drink called a Sundowner became the seed of a German gin with an African soul. Today 15% of the profit from every bottle of Elephant Gin goes to protecting the animals the brand is named after.

Behind every bottle of Elephant Gin, 15% of the profit goes to African wildlife conservation projects, and in this edition the distillery lets macerated sloe berries pull dark forest-fruit flavour into the house's London Dry Gin.

    Expert's description

Elephant Sloe Gin is a German sloe gin made from Elephant London Dry Gin, bottled at 35%.

The sloe gin is made by adding macerated sloe berries to Elephant London Dry Gin, which already builds on 14 different botanicals.

Among the 14 botanicals are four African ingredients: buchu, baobab, lion's tail and devil's claw, alongside more classic ones such as juniper, elderberry, mountain pine needles, orange peel, cassia bark and lavender.

The sloe berries give a tart, forest-fruit-like depth that is markedly drier than many other sloe gins on the market.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers red berry and sloe berry fruit with cracked black pepper and a faint hint of grilled almond.

    Palate

The palate is brawny with cracked black pepper spice and tart sloe berry fruit with faint lavender.

    Finish

The finish is relatively dry compared to many other sloe gins.

    Item no.: 2222786539-6051

This powerful edition of Elephant Gin uses double the amount of the house's 14 botanicals, giving it a far more intense character than the classic London Dry edition.

    Expert's description

Elephant Strength Gin is a German Navy Strength Gin, unaged and bottled at 57%.

The gin is built on the same 14 botanicals as Elephant London Dry Gin, including the African ingredients buchu, baobab, devil's claw and lion's tail, but uses double the quantity of each.

The extra botanicals combined with the high strength give a far more concentrated, powerful flavour experience than the standard edition.

Despite its strength, the gin is often described as surprisingly smooth, with a long finish dominated by juniper and citrus.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is powerful and fresh, dominated by juniper, layered with vibrant citrus, particularly sweet orange peel, an herbaceous hint of mountain pine, and the characteristic blackcurrant-like fragrance of buchu.

    Palate

The palate is smooth with a strong juniper presence complemented by lemon peel, heather and mint, followed by orange, bitterness and mild notes of ginger and blackcurrant.

    Finish

The finish is long and surprisingly smooth, with lingering warmth and a pronounced imprint of juniper and citrus.

About Elephant Gin

Elephant Gin is an award-winning German gin that pairs rare African botanicals with German craftsmanship and local spring water near Hamburg. For newcomers it's a spicy, earthy gin with a story you can taste in every glass; for the socially conscious collector, 15% of profits go to African conservation projects, making Elephant Gin one of the most respected 'giving back' brands in the gin category.

History & Background

The idea for Elephant Gin was born during a trip to Africa, where the founders experienced Sundowners – evening drinks enjoyed after a long day out in the African bush. Back in Germany, they decided to create a gin that could bring that experience home, built on rare African botanicals combined with classic European ingredients. From the start it was clear the brand should give something back, so 15% of profits from every bottle sold is donated to organisations working to protect Africa's wild elephants and their habitats. That social commitment is today just as much a part of Elephant Gin's identity as the taste itself.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with juniper and African-inspired botanicals such as baobab, orange peel and juniper from Namibia.

Signature Style

Exotic, Spiced, Full-Bodied
