The gin is named after the Harahorn, the Scandinavian answer to the American jackalope, a mythical horned hare that adorns the distinctive blue bottle.
Expert's description
Harahorn Gin is a Norwegian Small Batch Gin from Det Norske Brenneri, bottled at 46%.
The distillery in Grimstad was founded in 2011, after Norway's state alcohol monopoly was dissolved in 2005, making it Norway's first private distillery in over 80 years.
Beyond classic botanicals like juniper, coriander, angelica, marjoram, grains of paradise and anise, the gin uses Norwegian ingredients such as juniper from Røros, blueberries from Nordmarka, rhubarb from Grimstad, bladderwrack from Stadt, angelica from Oppdal and Norwegian oregano from Sunndal.
Each batch is weighed, measured and assembled by hand in portions of just 300 litres, ensuring high and consistent quality. The gin was crowned 2019 Gin of the Year at the USA Spirits Ratings.
