Spain Rum

  • Equipo Navazos Bota 65 Spanish Oloroso Aged Rum bottle
    Item no.: 22227865449-316

Equipo Navazos came from the sherry world, where the group made its name finding forgotten, extraordinary casks in the bodegas of Jerez. La Bota 65 is where that same curious approach is turned toward an entirely different spirit: rum.

    Expert Description

Equipo Navazos Bota 65 is a Rum from the Antilles finished in an Oloroso sherry cask in Spain and bottled at 44%.

The rum's origin is 32 casks from the Antilles, which first spent five years in bourbon barrels before being transferred to freshly emptied Oloroso sherry casks in the Jerez region. There the rum continued maturing for a period estimated at between 15 and 20 years, before Equipo Navazos bottled it under the name "Bota 65" in May 2016.

The rum is bottled without any chill-filtering, colouring, sweetening or flavouring, a philosophy Equipo Navazos brings from its work with rare sherries, where purity and transparency about origin always come before commercial consistency.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Deep and complex with plums, salted caramel, dried fruit and figs, complemented by spice and stone fruit.

    Palate

Soft and full-bodied with chocolate, dried fruit and a clear sherry sweetness, where the sugar cane's robust core can be felt beneath the soft, silky mouthfeel.

    Finish

Long and complex with a final hint of nuts and sherry spice.

  • Bottle of Tres Hombres La Isla Bonita 2017 rum
    Item no.: 22227865421-1008

This rum has crossed the Atlantic under sail, not in a container. The motion of the sea is part of the flavour.

    Expert description

Tres Hombres 2017 Edition 19 La Isla Bonita Captains Choice is a Rum from Spain, distilled at the Aldea distillery on La Palma, matured 20 years in ex-bourbon and Spanish oak casks and bottled at 58%.

The rum is transported from the Caribbean and Europe exclusively aboard the sailing ship Tres Hombres, operated by Dutch shipping company Fairtransport, which champions environmentally friendly cargo shipping without the use of an engine. After 20 years of land maturation, the rum underwent a second maturation in the ship's hold during the nearly 10,000-nautical-mile voyage across the Atlantic, where the constant motion intensifies the interaction with the wood. Along the way, the rum also spent time in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes and Oloroso sherry. Only the captain selects the casks that end up in this series.

    Tasting notes

    Palate

Powerful and full-bodied, with wine-driven notes from the sherry and Pineau casks.

    Finish

Long and memorable, with lingering complexity from the double maturation.
