Kininvie was built in 1990 by William Grant & Sons as a silent sister to Glenfiddich and Balvenie, tucked behind the two more famous distilleries in Dufftown. For over thirty years it lived entirely in the shadows, used to add depth to the house's blends without ever being bottled itself. Only with the rare Hive series has the public finally been allowed to taste what Kininvie can really do.

Kininvie 17 Years Old Batch 001 is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 42.6%. Batch 001 was, in 2016, the very first single malt Kininvie ever released under its own name, after decades in which the spirit was used exclusively in blends. It is matured in ex-bourbon casks, which highlight Kininvie's soft, fruity base character — a style closer to Balvenie than to Glenfiddich.

Ripe pears, honey and a light nutty aroma of almonds.

About Kininvie

Kininvie is a 1990 Dufftown distillery, built by William Grant & Sons as a sister to Glenfiddich and Balvenie. For a newcomer, it's genuinely hard to even find a bottle; for the connoisseur, that's exactly the point - Kininvie was used purely internally for blends for decades, and the limited Hive series that finally gave the public access has become one of the most sought-after, rare releases among serious collectors.

History & Background

The Grant family wanted a third distillery to secure independence in malt supply for their blends, including Grant's, without relying on buying from other houses. Kininvie was kept deliberately low-key, and it wasn't until 2016 that a 25-year-old official release seriously introduced the name to the public.

Production & Style

The distillery has nine stills housed in a single building and uses an unusually long fermentation, giving a fruity, easy-drinking distillate well suited to blending.
