GlenWyvis Whisky

GlenWyvis was born from a dream of rallying an entire local community around one distillery. In 2016, over 3,000 people invested in the project, making GlenWyvis the world's first 100% community-owned distillery. This is whiskey built on community, renewable energy, and the belief that Dingwall deserved its distillery back.

  • Glen Wyvis 2019 Little Brown Dog Madeira Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky 56,5%
    Item no.: 222355-8875
The independent bottler Little Brown Dog acquires casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottles them under their own brand – all bottles are adorned with the company’s distinctive little brown dog. Here, they have sourced a cask from the new Glen Wyvis Distillery.

    Little Brown Dog writes:
We don't often get the chance to explore warehouses freely, and there’s a good reason for that. However, it seems the Glenwyvis team didn’t get the memo. On a day spent in their incredibly packed dunnage warehouse, after sampling many excellent casks, we found a truly outstanding one. This cask is remarkable as it is the first Madeira cask they have ever filled, making it a significant part of this young distillery’s history. We believe this cask pairs wonderfully with their spirit, and it’s likely that Madeira casks will become an important part of Glenwyvis’s identity in the future.

Interestingly, this cask was also one of the least accessible in the entire warehouse, so we’re quite pleased with our find. The whisky is characterized by a color reminiscent of strawberry wine. On the nose, it presents aromas of apricot, a unique hint of cidre (not cider), and pecans. The palate offers a delightful combination of strawberry tart, panforte, and Ethiopian coffee beans. The finish is marked by sweet notes of angelica and a touch of English mustard. Bottled the day after its 5th birthday, this release comprises just 299 bottles. It features natural color, is non-chill filtered, cask strength, and is a single cask offering.

About GlenWyvis

GlenWyvis Distillery sits at the foot of Ben Wyvis in the Scottish Highlands and is the world's first distillery owned by the local community through crowdfunded shares. For newcomers it's an accessible, modern Scotch single malt; for collectors, the ownership structure and sustainable production - powered by wind, water, solar and biomass energy - make for a unique story in an otherwise tradition-bound industry.

History & Background

GlenWyvis Distillery was founded in 2015 with the clear aim of uniting the Dingwall community around a shared project. The town's last distillery had closed all the way back in 1926, and GlenWyvis set out to revive the local distilling tradition. In 2016 the distillery made history with a record-breaking community share offer, in which over 3,000 people invested, making GlenWyvis the world's first 100% locally owned distillery. Since then, the distillery has continued its pioneering role in sustainable production, powered entirely by wind, water, solar and biomass energy.

The distillery began production in 2017 on the site of an old farm and is run by hundreds of local shareholders.

Production & Style

The distillery places strong emphasis on sustainability and draws much of its energy from its own wind turbine, solar panels and biomass.

Signature Style

Fresh, Fruity, Clean
The whisky offers a fresh, fruity character with a clean, modern finish.
