Beluga was launched in the early 2000s by Russian spirits house Beluga Group, aiming to create a counterpart to the many cheap export vodkas Russia was otherwise known for internationally. The name and elegant bottle, often featuring a silver fish emblem, were deliberately chosen to signal caviar-level luxury and exclusivity at first glance. Through a slow production process involving filtration and rest on oak, Beluga sets itself apart from faster-produced vodkas, and the brand today actively markets itself as the natural companion to caviar and fine dining worldwide.
