Longmorn

Longmorn was founded in 1894 near Elgin and quickly earned a reputation as one of blenders' most sought-after malts. Chivas's whisky maker is said to have claimed Longmorn could be used in almost any blend without clashing - a rare flexibility that made it indispensable behind the scenes. Now owned by Pernod Ricard, Longmorn remains one of Speyside's best-kept insider secrets.

About Longmorn

Longmorn is a Speyside distillery from 1894, historically one of blenders' most valued malts. For a newcomer, it's a full-bodied, fruity, gently spiced style; for the connoisseur, Longmorn is interesting because it so rarely reached the public despite its recognition among professionals - a whisky that built its reputation quietly behind the scenes of some of Scotland's most respected blends, long before it was allowed to stand on the shelf itself.

History & Background

Longmorn was founded by John Duff, the same man who later founded Glenlossie, and the distillery quickly earned a reputation for high quality among blenders. In 1970 it was expanded with six new stills, and the whisky has historically commanded a premium among blenders compared with its neighbours. Today Longmorn is owned by Chivas Brothers/Pernod Ricard and is released only in smaller volumes as an official single malt.

Production & Style

The distillery uses long fermentation times and slow distillation, giving a full-bodied, oily distillate that matures well in both bourbon and sherry casks.

Signature Style

Full-Bodied, Fruity, Complex
Ripe apples, honey and a deep, sherry-toned sweetness give a whisky with far more weight and depth than its low profile would suggest.

Did You Know?

In old blending circles Longmorn was held in such regard that a blend could reportedly be called 'full-bodied' simply for containing Longmorn in its makeup.
