Raasay Whisky

Isle of Raasay Distillery opened in 2017 as the first legal distillery ever on the island of that name – a small, remote spot between Skye and the Scottish mainland, where local lore tells of decades of illicit distilling before it. R&B Distillers, founded by Alasdair Day and Bill Dobbie, built the distillery right next to an old manor house overlooking the sound. It's a brand-new whisky story, written on an island that waited two centuries for its own legal dram.

About Raasay

Isle of Raasay Distillery opened in 2017 as the first legal distillery in the island's history, built at the old Borodale House overlooking the sound to Skye. The distillery, run by R&B Distillers, produces both a peated and an unpeated style of single malt.

History & Background

Raasay has a long history of illicit distilling, which local excise officers tried for centuries to stamp out, without success. R&B Distillers, founded by Alasdair Day and Bill Dobbie, chose the island precisely for this reason as the symbolic home for a new, legal distillery that deliberately plays on this past.

Production & Style

The distillery uses water from the island's own source, Tobar na Ba Bàine, and produces two parallel styles – a peated and an unpeated single malt – both matured in a combination of bourbon, chinato and virgin oak casks.

Signature Style

Maritime, Fruity, Lightly Smoked
Citrus and sea salt meet light smoke in the peated editions, while the unpeated versions offer a fresh, floral sweetness.
