History & Background

La Réunion has long had fertile ground for sugarcane production, and with it, rum production, thanks to the island's tropical climate. Distillerie de Savanna sources its raw material from the nearby Sucrerie de Bois-Rouge and produces both classic French agricole rum from sugarcane juice and traditional molasses-based rum - a combination that is relatively rare in the rum world. Yeast and fermentation time are decisive for the flavor: the molasses-based rum ferments for 24 hours, the agricole rum for 36, while the house's Grand Arôme can ferment for up to 15 days. The rum is bottled directly at the distillery, leaving nothing to chance along the way.
