Vesterhavsmost Snaps

A Danish schnapps with roots on the Jutland west coast, where apple orchards meet salty sea air. Vesterhavsmost draws its character from the rugged, down-to-earth tradition of fruit snaps rather than pure grain spirit, and every sip carries a hint of apple sweetness alongside the west coast's salty edge.

  • Dark walnut schnapps bottle with green walnuts and apples

On a farm by the Danish west coast, between apple trees and a walnut grove, green nuts become a dark, spiced schnapps with bite.

    The Expert's Description

Tonow Vesterhavsmost Danish Valnødde Snaps is a Danish walnut schnapps at 40% ABV from TONOW Distillery.

Behind the bottle is the farm Vesterhavsmost in West Jutland, which has processed fruit from its own orchard since 2013 and expanded with its own distillery, TONOW, in 2021. The schnapps is made from the farm's own green walnuts, picked from a seven-hectare grove and steeped in the farm's own apple brandy before maturing on oak casks. The result is a schnapps with clear bitterness and a deep, nutty character that sets it apart from classic spiced aquavits.

About Vesterhavsmost Snaps

Vesterhavsmost Snaps is a Danish schnapps that draws its identity from the west coast's raw and salty character. For the curious, it's an approachable way into Danish fruit snaps, where apple sweetness is balanced by spice and a light salty finish, while connoisseurs will appreciate how clearly the region itself comes through in the glass.

History & Background

Vesterhavsmost Snaps takes its name from 'most' - the Danish term for apple must - and from Vesterhavet, Denmark's westward-facing North Sea coast, known for its apple orchards and rugged climate. The snaps builds on the older Danish tradition of fruit snaps, where locally grown apples are used as a base or flavoring instead of a pure grain-based distillate. In marketing, the North Sea's harsh, salty climate underscores the product's rustic, down-to-earth character.
