On a farm by the Danish west coast, between apple trees and a walnut grove, green nuts become a dark, spiced schnapps with bite.

    The Expert's Description

Tonow Vesterhavsmost Danish Valnødde Snaps is a Danish walnut schnapps at 40% ABV from TONOW Distillery.

Behind the bottle is the farm Vesterhavsmost in West Jutland, which has processed fruit from its own orchard since 2013 and expanded with its own distillery, TONOW, in 2021. The schnapps is made from the farm's own green walnuts, picked from a seven-hectare grove and steeped in the farm's own apple brandy before maturing on oak casks. The result is a schnapps with clear bitterness and a deep, nutty character that sets it apart from classic spiced aquavits.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Robust and nutty with a touch of the apple brandy's warmth and a light bitter undertone.

    Palate

Spiced and full-bodied, with walnut dominating alongside a clear bitterness and a hint of oak from maturation.

    Finish

Long, bitter and warm, with lingering notes of walnut and wood.
