Montepeloso Wine

Fabio Chiarelotto trained as a historian, not a winemaker, when he took over a vineyard near the Tuscan coast in 1998. Today Montepeloso sells at sky-high prices in the finest restaurants, a true cult wine from the very top shelf.

About Montepeloso

Montepeloso is located near the Tuscan coast and is run by Fabio Chiarelotto, a Swiss-Italian historian who took over the vineyard in 1998 together with investor Silvio Denz. For newcomers the name might sound unfamiliar, but that's exactly what makes it interesting; for collectors, Montepeloso is a pure cult wine, where the focus on terroir and hillside cultivation has made the producer one of Tuscany's most sought-after yet lesser-known names.

History & Background

Fabio Chiarelotto, a trained historian with a Swiss-Italian background, took over the Montepeloso vineyard in 1998 together with investor Silvio Denz from the previous owners. Rather than following his local colleagues' practice of growing in the valley, he chose to plant the vines up the hillsides, a decision that has since defined the house's terroir-driven style. Over the decades the wines have steadily improved in quality and today sell at high prices in fine restaurants as a recognised cult wine.

Production & Style

The grapes grow in Suvereto's warm, coastal climate, and the wines are often made with a blend of international and Italian grapes.

Signature Style

Intense, Fruity, Oak-Influenced
The wine offers an intense, fruity character with clear oak influence.
