Diez Merito Sherry

In the sun-baked cellars of Jerez, Díez-Mérito has aged sherry since the town's bodegas were the trading hub of the entire Spanish wine world. Top scores from American critic Parker have since cemented the house's reputation among connoisseurs.

When Díez-Mérito was founded in 2006, they inherited something rare: the entire stock from Diez Hermanos, a house with roots back to 1876. Victoria Regina Oloroso is the result of that legacy - 30 years in barrel, concentrated to the extreme.

    Expert's Description

Diez Merito 30 Años Victoria Regina Oloroso is a Sherry from Jerez, Spain made from the Palomino grape, bottled at 20% ABV.

The sherry carries the VORS classification - Very Old Rare Sherry - which requires a minimum average age of 30 years in the solera system. Although Bodegas y Viñedos Díez-Mérito is a relatively young company, they're regarded among Jerez's top producers, partly because they took over the mature stock from Diez Hermanos Wineries, established in 1876. This edition of Victoria Regina Oloroso has scored 93 points from Robert Parker.

About Díez Mérito

Bodegas y Viñedos Díez-Mérito is one of Jerez's classic sherry houses, known for having received top scores from the renowned American wine critic Robert Parker. For newcomers, sherry from Díez-Mérito is a solid entry point into Jerez's broad stylistic range, from dry Fino to sweet Pedro Ximénez; for collectors, the house's critically acclaimed bottles are a rare case of sherry, an often overlooked category, receiving the same recognition as the world's finest wines.

History & Background

Jerez's sherry tradition stretches back several hundred years, to a time when the town's bodegas exported wine across Europe via the port of Cadiz. Díez-Mérito is part of this long tradition and has, over the years, built up a substantial reserve of soleras, the tiered cask system in which older and younger sherry are continuously blended. The house's international reputation was firmly cemented when several of its bottles received praise and top scores from Robert Parker.

Production & Style

The sherry is made from Palomino and Pedro Ximénez grapes and matured using the solera system, blending younger and older vintages continuously.
