Helsinki Gin

The first new distillery in Helsinki in over 100 years is housed in the city's old slaughterhouse district, Teurastamo, right in its gastronomic hub. Three friends - Séamus Holohan, Kai Kilpinen, and Mikko Mykkänen - set out to make top-quality gin using local ingredients wherever possible. Today, an acclaimed cocktail bar, Tislaamo, is part of the experience.

For over a hundred years, Helsinki had no distillery of its own, until Séamus Holohan, Kai Kilpinen and Mikko Mykkänen opened the doors to one in the city's culinary quarter of Teurastamo in 2014.

    Expert's description

Helsinki Dry Gin is a Finnish gin distilled by The Helsinki Distilling Company and bottled at 47%.

Nine carefully chosen botanicals go into the recipe, including Finnish lingonberries, Balkan juniper, Seville orange and lemon peel, fennel and coriander seed, orris root, angelica root and rose petals.

All raw materials come from the area around Helsinki and are handled by hand throughout the process, from harvesting the botanicals to bottling.

The gin won gold medals in both 2016 and 2017, as well as the prestigious Spirit of the Year award at Destille Berlin in 2016.

About Helsinki Gin

Helsinki Distilling Company is the first distillery in Helsinki in over 100 years, located in the old slaughterhouse district Teurastamo in the city's gastronomic hub. For newcomers, it's a clean, classic London dry-style gin; for connoisseurs, one of the distilleries that revived Finnish distilling tradition in a modern, urban setting after a century-long pause.

History & Background

Helsinki Distilling Company was founded by three friends, Séamus Holohan, Kai Kilpinen, and Mikko Mykkänen, who set out together to create the first distillery in Helsinki in over a hundred years. They chose to locate the distillery in Teurastamo, the city's former slaughterhouse district, now transformed into a gastronomic hub. From the start, the goal has been top quality using ingredients that are as local as possible, and the distillery today also runs the cocktail bar Tislaamo as part of the experience.

Production & Style

Local Finnish ingredients are used where possible in a classic London Dry distillation that links British technique with Finnish sense of place.

Signature Style

Nordic, Clean, Local
Classic, dry juniper character joined by a touch of Nordic freshness from the Finnish ingredients.
