Levasseur Rum

Levasseur is named after pirate Olivier Levasseur, known as "La Buse", who terrorised the Indian Ocean during the golden age of piracy. The rum is distilled in the Seychelles, the same waters he once plundered.

    Item no.: 22227865416-2021-03-0036

Named after a pirate, brewed on an island nation, but flavoured with something that brings a completely different spirit category to mind: whisky.

    Expert description

Levasseur Dark is a Rum from the Seychelles, matured in antique casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum comes from Levasseur Rum, founded by Marco Francis in collaboration with Mauritian master blender Frederic Bestel, with the distillery located at Au Cap on the southern tip of Mahé. The name pays tribute to the legendary 18th-century pirate Olivier Levasseur, whose story still lives on in the region's folklore. The Dark expression is matured in antique bourbon casks together with wood shards infused with authentic aromas of roasted walnut, vanilla, cinnamon and whisky, giving the rum a character closer to whisky than to traditional Caribbean rum. It is made without added sugar.

About Levasseur Rom

Levasseur is distilled in the Seychelles, an island nation north of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, taking its name and story from one of history's most legendary pirates. That gives the rum a story that reaches far beyond taste alone, while underlining the exotic, isolated location where it's made.

History & Background

Olivier Levasseur was a French pirate who operated in the Indian Ocean during the 1700s and, according to legend, was one of the most educated pirates ever, trained in astronomy, astrology and mathematics. Levasseur Rum draws on this history, producing its rum in the Seychelles, the same island group where the pirate once had his hideout.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled from molasses in the tropical climate of the Seychelles, where high humidity and constant heat encourage rapid, intense maturation of the rum in barrel.

Signature Style

Exotic, Tropical, Storied
A tropical, exotic rum with a full sweetness, shaped by the Indian Ocean's warm climate and the story of an infamous pirate.
