About Molinari

Molinari Sambuca is one of Italy's best-known sambuca brands, known for its classic, sweet aniseed flavour. For the newcomer it's the most recognisable entry into the sambuca category; for the connoisseur, Molinari is interesting as the market leader within Italy itself, where the brand remains Romans' preferred choice for finishing off dinner, unlike several other sambuca brands that focus primarily on export markets.

History & Background

Molinari was founded in Civitavecchia near Rome in 1945 by Angelo Molinari, who developed his own sambuca recipe based on distilled star anise. The family has stuck to the original formula ever since and the company is now run by the third generation. In Italy, Molinari is regarded as the benchmark for how an authentic Roman sambuca should taste, and the brand continues to dominate the Italian domestic market, often preferred over its more export-focused competitors.

Production & Style

The sambuca is made from star anise and other spices, distilled and sweetened following classic Roman methods.
