Pierre Ferrand Cognac

Pierre Ferrand is the cognac house that reinvented the past to save the present. While the rest of the Cognac region chased volume, Alexandre Gabriel dug through historical archives to recreate styles the world had nearly forgotten, with the legendary 1840 Original Formula as the clearest example.

    Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical is a lively, aromatic and fruit‑driven liqueur created as a tropical interpretation of Ferrand’s classic Dry Curaçao. The focus is on ripe fruit, natural citrus oils and a deep, warm sweetness that gives a more exotic and sun‑ripened profile than the original.

The flavour is built on a base of Caribbean rum and cognac, providing body and structure. Layers of tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango and passion fruit are combined with bitter orange and fresh citrus. The result is a liqueur with both sweetness, freshness and a gentle spicy edge, making it extremely versatile in cocktails.

The aroma is intense and fruity with notes of ripe pineapple, orange peel, vanilla and a hint of flowers. On the palate it is soft, round and full‑bodied with a balanced tropical sweetness that never becomes heavy. The finish is long, warm and citrus‑fresh with an elegant bitter touch from the orange peel.

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical works beautifully in tiki cocktails, margaritas, daiquiris, spritz variations or as a fruity twist in classics like Mai Tai or Sidecar. It can also be enjoyed neat or over ice for a more dessert‑like experience.

A colourful and flavour‑packed liqueur that brings tropical warmth and complexity to both bar and glass.

About Pierre Ferrand

Pierre Ferrand, officially Maison Ferrand, is named after an 18th-century cognac merchant, but the house in its current form was built by Alexandre Gabriel, who has run the company since 1989 with an almost archival approach to stylistic history. Rather than following the modern trend toward ever milder, more accessible cognacs, Gabriel dug into old recipes to recreate the bolder, more spiced style cognac had before it became an after-dinner drink for the broad middle class. The result is a cognac equally popular among bartenders using it for classic cocktails like the Sidecar and among dedicated cognac collectors.

History & Background

The Cognac region has historically been defined by the confident, cigar-smoking wholesaler, but that image was challenged as consumers grew more socially conscious and the Asian market was hit by economic depression. It was precisely during that period of pressure on the industry that Pierre Ferrand began differentiating itself by focusing on authenticity over volume. Alexandre Gabriel took over the historic name and has since built a house that insists on its own distillation and ageing rather than buying finished eaux-de-vie, a model many other houses in the region have abandoned.

Production & Style

The grape behind all cognac is Ugni Blanc, distilled twice in traditional Charentais copper stills, a slow, double distillation required by law in the region. Pierre Ferrand ages its spirit in French oak from the Limousin forests, whose coarser, more porous structure gives a different, more spiced maturation than the finer Tronçais oak. The VS, VSOP, and XO classifications indicate the minimum age of the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend, but Pierre Ferrand is known for consistently using far older stocks than required.

Signature Style

Spiced, Full-Bodied, Historic
The flavour is full-bodied and spiced with notes of dried fruit, honey, and a light oxidative depth that recalls how cognac tasted before the style was diluted for mass appeal.
