The yuzu is picked late in the season, when the peel is thickest and most fragrant, and sent from the French citrus specialist L'Agrumist to Pierre Ferrand's workshop. There it meets a base of the house's own cognac and becomes something that is neither pure citrus nor pure spirit, but somewhere in between.

    Expert's Description

Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Yuzu Late Harvest is a French Liqueur on a cognac base, bottled at 40%.

Yuzu is a citrus fruit grown mainly in Japan, a cross between mandarin and a wild citrus variety, valued for its intensely fragrant peel rather than its juice. At L'Agrumist the fruit is hand-picked late in the season, a technique that concentrates the peel and gives it a character closer to pastry than fresh citrus.

The base is Pierre Ferrand's own cognac, which lends the liqueur depth and a gentle warmth beneath the citrus notes. The combination of late harvest and cognac base makes this Limited Edition bottling a different take on the house's classic Dry Curaçao style.

The liqueur is intended as a cocktail ingredient that can bring freshness and complexity to drinks that would otherwise lack a clear citrus edge.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma is intense and floral, with yuzu's distinctive peel and a hint of honey and pastry.

    Palate

The palate is sweet and citrus-driven, where yuzu's sharp peel meets a soft, cake-like sweetness from the late-harvest technique.

    Finish

The finish is fresh and lightly bitter, where the cognac base gives a warm close beneath the citrus sweetness.

    Did You Know?

Yuzu is a cross between mandarin and the wild citrus papeda, and in Japan the fruit is prized mainly for its fragrant peel rather than its sour, sparse juice, making it a sought-after ingredient among bartenders worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Yuzu Late Harvest Limited Edition French Liqueur 70 cl 40%

What is yuzu, and what does it taste like?

Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit with an intensely floral peel, tasting more complex than lemon or lime, with tones recalling mandarin and grapefruit.

What does "Late Harvest" mean for the flavour?

The late harvest concentrates the peel and adds cake-like, almost pastry-driven notes to the liqueur that are not found in earlier-picked citrus.

    Which cocktails suit this liqueur?

It works beautifully in a Yuzu Meringue Sour, where the liqueur is shaken with fresh pineapple juice, coconut milk, syrup and egg white and strained over ice with a touch of fresh mint, but it also fits any drink that would otherwise call for a classic orange liqueur.

Can the liqueur be enjoyed neat?

Yes, ideally over ice, where the citrus peel and cognac base are given room to unfold slowly.

Why is it a Limited Edition?

Because it is made with a limited quantity of hand-picked yuzu from L'Agrumist, making it a time-limited variation on the house's standing Dry Curaçao range.

How should an opened bottle be stored?

Upright, cool and dark, where it stays fresh for a long time after opening.
