About Lysholm Snaps

Lysholm Snaps is a Norwegian aquavit in the classic Linje style, where the spirit has traditionally travelled by ship across the equator and back during cask maturation. For the newcomer it's a warm, spiced and accessible entry into Norwegian aquavit; for the connoisseur, the Linje tradition is the core of the interest, a production method that gives each bottle its own unique cask-ageing story, complete with the ship's route and the date it crossed the equator.

History & Background

The Lysholm name is closely tied to the Norwegian Linje aquavit tradition, which began in the 1800s when it was discovered that aquavit sent by sailing ship to the East and back to Norway developed a markedly better flavour from the long sea voyage. The casks were stored in the ships' holds, where the motion, temperature shifts and salty sea air were believed to speed up the maturation process. The tradition lives on today, with certain Linje aquavits still shipped across the equator twice before being bottled and sold.

Production & Style

The aquavit is distilled from potatoes and spiced with typical Nordic herbs such as caraway and anise, before being aged in casks during the long sea voyage.
