Elit Vodka

An Israeli vodka distilled seven times to achieve an extra clean, smooth character. Elit is one of the few internationally known spirits names to come out of Israel, and the bottle carries that with a certain pride. Purity isn't just a marketing word here - it's the entire point of the process.
  • Elit magnum bottle in clear glass with silver neck and broad shoulder
    Item no.: 222278333-778963

Three litres of vodka has weight to it. You do not lift it with one hand, and you do not push it to the back of the cupboard. The elit magnum is built to stand in the middle of the table where everyone can see what is being poured.

    Expert description

Elit Vodka is a Latvian Vodka from Stoli Group, distilled from wheat and bottled at 40% in a 300 cl magnum.

The large format changes nothing about the liquid but everything about the occasion. Three litres covers a full gathering, and because the bottle has to be handled with both hands, the pour itself becomes part of the evening. The shoulder is broad, the neck is long, and the glass is heavy enough that the bottle stands steady even when half empty.

Inside sits the top of the house range. The wheat is distilled three times to alpha grade at Latvijas Balzams in Riga, and the spirit is cut with artesian water from a borehole under the plant. It is then chilled to minus 18 degrees and drawn slowly through ion charged filters — the freeze filtration the whole elit expression is built around.

The cold is not decoration. At that temperature the heavier alcohols and oils behave differently and allow themselves to be caught in the filter, which is why the texture ends up as thick and round as it does. A magnum gives you ample opportunity to test the claim.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Discreet and grainy. Dry baked goods run across the whole aroma, with a small lift of citrus peel on top.

    Palate

Thick and round in the mouth. Sweetness from the wheat builds slowly and gives way to a dry, lightly peppered stripe.

    Finish

Clean and coolly drying. It lingers briefly and leaves the tongue with no stickiness at all.

    Did you know?

Latvijas Balzams in Riga was built in 1900 by order of the Tsar and has distilled without interruption ever since. The plant has outlived two world wars, a series of regimes and a declaration of independence — and still makes spirits on the same ground today.

  • Elit Night Edition bottle in matte black glass with engraved circles
    Item no.: 22227333-663

Turn the lights off and the bottle almost disappears. Matte black glass throws back no reflection, and the engraved circles cut across one another like rings around an eclipsed moon. Night Edition was drawn from the things you only see once the sky is dark enough.

    Expert description

Elit Vodka Night Edition is a Latvian Vodka from Stoli Group, distilled from wheat and bottled at 40% in a matte black bottle.

Elit sits at the top of the Stolichnaya family and is made at Latvijas Balzams in Riga, one of the oldest and largest spirits plants in the Baltics. The wheat is distilled three times into an alpha grade spirit, the purest classification available to work with, and then cut with artesian water drawn from roughly 200 metres below ground.

The final step is the house signature. The spirit is chilled to minus 18 degrees and then drawn through ion charged filters so slowly that the process can run for hours. The cold holds the heavier compounds back, so they stay in the filter rather than in the glass. The vodka is then left to rest before bottling.

Night Edition is the same liquid in different clothing. The bottle is a matte black version of the usual elit shape, and the engraved circles borrow from eclipses and other rare night sky events. This is a bottle designed for evening light rather than daylight.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Cool and reserved. The aroma is dry wheat with a touch of lemon peel and a breath of anise behind it.

    Palate

Silky and almost free of burn. A discreet grain sweetness fills the middle before white pepper lays a thin stripe across the tongue.

    Finish

Cool and clean. It fades quickly and leaves a sense of mineral and cold air behind.

    Cool · Silky · Dry · Mineral

    Did you know?

Night Edition was the first elit bottle built with light inside it. A source in the base sends light up through the frosted neck so the engraved circles appear in the dark — a bottle that only shows its full decoration once the lamps are off.

The neck is frosted, as though the bottle had just come out of the freezer. That is no accident. The whole elit design points back at the one step that separates it from the rest of the Stolichnaya family: the cold.

    Expert description

Elit Vodka is a Latvian Vodka from Stoli Group, distilled from wheat and bottled at 40%.

The foundation is an alpha grade spirit. That is not a marketing word but an official classification with limits on aldehydes, fusel oils and methanol that sit far above what ordinary neutral alcohol has to meet. The wheat is distilled three times before the spirit is even allowed to claim the label.

It is then cut with artesian water from a borehole roughly 200 metres beneath Latvijas Balzams in Riga, and after that comes the step everything else is built around. The vodka is chilled to minus 18 degrees and drawn at a crawl through ion charged filters. The cold makes the heavier compounds sluggish enough to be caught, and the spirit then rests before bottling.

What you get out of it shows most clearly when the glass is cold. There is no sharp edge, no burn in the nose and a mouthfeel that verges on oily. In return, this is not a vodka with a great deal to say aromatically — the point is purity and texture rather than a long list of notes.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Very restrained. A pale grain character, a little white bread and a hint of fresh almond if you give it time.

    Palate

Soft and full with an oily sensation across the tongue. Sweetness is low, and a light mineral tone runs underneath it all.

    Finish

Short, clean and cool. Nothing lingers, and that is exactly the intention.

Serving suggestion: Straight from the freezer into a cool glass, or as the base of a Vodka Martini without too much vermouth.

    Did you know?

The name is deliberately written with a lower case letter. The house calls it elit rather than Elit, and the small e runs across the label, the box and every piece of material — a detail that regularly makes people assume a typing error has crept in.

About Elit Vodka

Elit is an Israeli premium vodka known for its extra-clean distillation process and its signature freeze filtration. For a newcomer to vodka, Elit is an easy entry point: a quiet, silky style with no rough edges, working just as well ice-cold on its own as in a simple cocktail. For the more curious drinker, Elit stands out because it's one of very few internationally distributed vodka brands from Israel - a market rarely seen on the vodka shelf alongside the Russian, Polish and Scandinavian heavyweights.

History & Background

Elit was developed by the Israeli beverage company Tempo Beer Industries in an attempt to create a vodka that could compete with established international premium brands. The sevenfold distillation and subsequent freeze filtration at very low temperatures were developed specifically to remove even the smallest impurities, a technique still marketed as the brand's core. Since launch, Elit has found its way into export markets across Europe and North America and today stands as Israel's most visible vodka export.

Production & Style

The vodka is distilled seven times and then cold filtered, a technique that removes impurities at low temperatures for added purity.
