Damrak Gin

Damrak is named after Amsterdam's busiest street and distilled at Bols - one of the world's oldest distilleries, making spirits since 1575. This is Dutch gin with the city's pulse in the bottle.

    Item no.: 2222786539-6040

Named after Amsterdam's old harbour, where ships of the Dutch East India Company once moored, this gin is built on a recipe that Lucas Bols found tucked away in its own distillery.

    Expert's description

Damrak Amsterdam Gin is a Dutch gin from Lucas Bols, bottled at 41.8%.

The recipe dates back to the 1700s and was rediscovered by Lucas Bols, the world's oldest distilled spirits brand, founded in 1575.

The gin is built on a neutral grain spirit and 17 botanicals, including oranges from Valencia and Curaçao, lemon, cinnamon, anise, juniper, lavender and angelica, and is distilled five times.

Unlike many traditional London Dry gins with a heavy juniper emphasis, Damrak goes for a more balanced, citrus-forward profile, where juniper remains a key ingredient.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers orange sherbet, spicy orange zest, dried fruit and light piney juniper.

    Palate

The palate is dominated by orange zest with underlying piney juniper, angelica root, dry black pepper and cinnamon spice.

    Finish

The finish is mild with a hint of lemon peel and juicy grapefruit tempered by coriander and white pepper.

About Damrak Gin

Damrak Gin is distilled by the House of Bols in Amsterdam, combining classic London Dry style with a Dutch twist of fresh citrus notes. It works equally well in a simple Gin & Tonic or a more elaborate cocktail, carrying the legacy of a distillery that has shaped Dutch spirits production for over 400 years.

History & Background

Bols was founded in 1575 and is considered one of the world's oldest distilleries, originally known for genever, the Dutch forerunner of gin. Damrak was created as Bols's take on a modern, internationally minded London Dry Gin, named after the street Damrak that runs right past the house's roots in central Amsterdam. Today Damrak is one of Bols's most widely distributed gin brands outside the Netherlands.

Production & Style

The gin is distilled with a classic combination of juniper, coriander and angelica root, but stands out with a pronounced citrus profile that gives it a fresh, almost sparkling character suited to simple drinks.

Signature Style

Citrus-fresh, Classic, Light
A light, citrus-driven gin where juniper stays in the background while fresh lemon and orange peel dominate the flavour.
