McConnell´s Whisky

McConnell's roots go back to 1776 and the Belfast Distillery Company, when the whiskey was once among Ireland's best-selling. When the Irish whiskey industry collapsed in the 20th century, the name disappeared for decades until it was revived in 2020. Today McConnell's is produced by Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, a rebirth of one of Ireland's oldest commercial whiskey stories.

  • McConnells 5 Year Old Irish whiskey bottle from Belfast
    Item no.: 222255-7743

The standard release in the McConnells family is the one that shows the brand's DNA at its purest, no extra cask finish, just five years in oak and the soft Irish style the city was once known for.

    Expert Review

McConnells 5 Year Old is an Irish Whiskey matured in oak casks, bottled at 42%.

The whiskey has undergone five years of maturation in high-quality oak casks, giving soft notes of vanilla, caramel and toasted oak. With a slightly lower alcohol strength than its sibling Sherry Cask Finish, this expression offers a lighter, more approachable experience while retaining depth and complexity in flavour.

About McConnell's

McConnell's traces back to the Belfast Distillery Company, founded in 1776, and was once one of Ireland's best-selling whiskeys before it closed in the mid-20th century. For newcomers it's a smooth, accessible Irish whiskey with honey and vanilla; for connoisseurs, the 2020 revival tells the story of how old Irish names re-emerge alongside the industry's broader comeback.

History & Background

In its heyday, McConnell's was one of the best-known names in Belfast, and the whiskey was exported widely until the general decline of the Irish whiskey industry in the 20th century closed the distillery. The 2020 revival marked a deliberate effort to recreate Belfast's whiskey heritage, with the distinctive green bottle referencing the city's history.

Production & Style

The whiskey is a blend triple-distilled, standard for the Irish style, and matured in ex-bourbon casks for a soft, accessible character.

Signature Style

Soft, Accessible, Fruity
Apple and pear meet a light vanilla sweetness from the bourbon casks, finishing short and clean – a whiskey built for everyday enjoyment.
