Clarendon Rum
ClarendonClarendon is one of Jamaica’s most important and character‑driven rum distilleries – a place where tradition, power and classic Jamaican pot still style come together. Located in Lionel Town in southern Jamaica, the distillery is known for producing rums with a pronounced ester profile, deep fruitiness and the natural funky edge that has made Jamaican rum famous worldwide. Clarendon works primarily with pot still distillation, resulting in heavy, aromatic and complex rums with plenty of depth. They produce both high‑ester rums bursting with tropical fruit intensity and more moderately ester‑driven styles that still carry the unmistakable Jamaican signature. Fermentation is often long and naturally driven, contributing to layers of overripe fruit, banana, pineapple, fermented notes and spice. The distillery is also known for supplying rum to major international brands, but many of the most exciting expressions come from independent bottlers, where Clarendon’s spirit is allowed to stand alone and show its full character. The typical Clarendon flavour profile is full‑bodied, warm and fruity, with notes of tropical fruit, vanilla, oak, spice and a subtle funky undertone. These are rums with personality – often powerful, always aromatic and unmistakably Jamaican. In short, Clarendon is one of the distilleries that defines what Jamaican rum can be: intense, fruity, complex and full of life. |
