Brouwerij Corsendonk

Corsendonk carries the name of an old Augustinian priory, where monks once brewed beer for both prayer and everyday life. Today's brewery recreates that same depth and calm - without belonging to a monastery itself.

About Corsendonk

Brouwerij Corsendonk is a Belgian brewery whose name and recipes draw on the tradition of the Corsendonk priory, an Augustinian monastery with roots stretching back to the Middle Ages. The beers are brewed using classic Belgian abbey methods with top-fermenting yeast and a strong secondary fermentation in the bottle, giving them the full-bodied, spiced character the style is known for. Because the brewery isn't itself attached to a working monastery, but deliberately builds on the heritage of one, Corsendonk occupies an interesting middle ground between genuine Trappist beers and the many commercial abbey beers on the market.

History & Background

The Corsendonk priory was founded in the Middle Ages as an Augustinian monastery, where the monks, as in many other places in Belgium, brewed beer as part of monastic life. When the monastic beer tradition was later revived in commercial form, the founders behind the modern Brouwerij Corsendonk chose to draw both name and inspiration from this history, even though the brewery has never itself been part of an active monastery. The result is a range of beers that deliberately references Belgium's rich abbey-brewing heritage while being produced using modern brewing methods.

Production & Style

The beers are brewed using classic Belgian methods with top-fermenting yeast, often in abbey style with strong bottle conditioning.

Signature Style

Full-Bodied, Spicy, Malty
The flavour is full-bodied and spicy, typical of Belgian abbey beer.
